Honest Book Review: Call Me By Your Name

Friday, 23 February 2018

call me by your name book cover

After seeing Tanya Burr's Instagram post about how much she loved reading Italian LGBT novel Call Me By Your Name, I decided to add it to my shopping cart.

My favourite film of all time (Blue is the Warmest Colour) is a gay coming of age love story set in France, so I assumed a similar storyline would appeal. There's something about LGBT romance stories at the moment that seems to resonate with me. I like that the narrative focuses on an undeniable connection between the two characters compared to the cheesy friends-with-benefit romcom malarky. My book arrived the following evening, and I was ready to fall in love...

Keeping a Journal

Monday, 19 February 2018

Since 2015 I have been keeping a journal. I was going through a rough patch at the time, and I found that scribbling down my feelings was the perfect way to deal with my emotions. I was able to ramble on for hours and I didn't have to worry about censoring what I was feeling. Since then I've kept a journal on and off, scribbling down random lists, doodles, scraps and a fair share of teen angst moments.

Unboxing My February Willoughby Book Club Subscription Box

Friday, 16 February 2018

I'm a sucker for subscription boxes. Over the years I've filled my room with Birchbox, Glossybox and Graze goodies. This year, however, I've decided to branch out to a book subscription service in the hope that I won't have an ever so familiar pile of things I'll definitely try later. probably throw out.

Apple and Cinnamon Pancakes from scratch

Monday, 12 February 2018

Its shrove Tuesday tomorrow which means your instagram will be filled with pancakes, pancakes and more pancakes.

In our household its a toss up (see what I did there) between the smaller American pancakes, or the flatter crepe-style english version. I won the debate, and so this year its english pancakes all round. I adapted Delia Smith's famous pancake recipe (reduced the butter in the hope of saving my waistline) and improvised a delicious caramelised apple and cinnamon topping. (Not saving my waistline.) It took under an hour to whip up and serve, and seem to be a winner all round.

Instax Mini 9 Polaroid Camera Review

Friday, 9 February 2018

Payday was last week (hands up if you've felt personally victimised by the December - January payroll) and I decided to tick off one of my new year's resolutions as soon as possible - own a Polaroid camera. I have one previous experience with polaroids, in which, to my horror, my best friend wanted a quick selfie. Unfortunately, I'm a member of the unphotogenic gang, I always look startled/wonky/flat in photos, however, this one photo came out relatively well. Was it the flash? The filter polaroid cameras seem to print? The slight out of focus softening of all my harsher features?
